Abstract :
Among many complications of Intrauterine devices (IUD), migration of IUD outside uterus is a rare complication. Because of its low cost, easy accessibility, and long-acting contraceptive action, IUDs are a popular choice for contraception worldwide. Some common complications of IUDs are irregular bleeding, pain abdomen, spontaneous expulsion. Uterine perforation and migration of the IUD occur in approximately 1? 2 per 1000 insertions. Uterine perforation may occur immediately after IUD placement or as a delayed event. Migration commonly occurs to pelvic and abdominal cavity or adjacent organs following perforation of the uterus. Intestine, bladder, and omentum are the most common sites of migration. Migration of an IUD to a far intra-abdominal site is extremely rare. Patients may be asymptomatic or they may present with site specific symptoms. Here we present the case of 36 years old female, with history of Copper T insertion 8 years back, complaining of pain abdomen and hematuria and CECT abdomen suggestive of a metallic structure in urinary bladder. She was managed by successful retrieval of Copper T using cystoscope.
