Impact of anthropometric parameters and risk factors in pre-gestational diabetes and effects on pregnancy outcomes. Dr. Punitha Nagaraj, Dr. Gayatri Devi Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a disorder of carbohydrate metabolism. It is caused by a combination of hereditary and environmental factors and is characterised by either inadequate secretion or inadequate action of insulin. Diabetes complicating pregnancy has become more common world wide. Abnormal maternal glucose regulation occurs in around 3% -10% of pregnancies. Reason for the rise in the prevalence of diabetes are mainly changes in lifestyle , dietary habits , older age at first conception, polycystic ovarian disease, obesity, family history. Aims and objectives: To study the risk factors, both prenatal and antenatal in pregnant women with type 2 diabetes.To correlate Anthropometric parameters (BMI) at booking visit ,along with waist circumference in antenatal mothers with pre-gestational Diabetes and effect on pregnancy outcome. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on 30 patients targeting pregnant women, of age group 21-35years, at Ramaiah medical college, hospital , between August 2024 to October 2024. Data was collected by administering the questionnaire and following up with medical records and fetomaternal outcomes. Results : The results of the study are currently being analysed. The findings are expected to provide valuable insights on the anthropometric parameters, fetomaternal outcomes in women with type2DM. Conclusion : Analysis is being made. A multitargated approach is needed with strict glycemic management, lifestyle counselling, screening for diabetes complications, hypertension management.
