Abstract :
Introduction : Globally the prevalence of Gestational diabetes Mellitus is increasing in recent years and affects 1-14% of all pregnancies. Its prevalence in Middle east and North Africa12.9% (Highest prevalence), Europe 5.8% (Lowest prevalence). In India its prevalence is increased from 0.53% in 2015-16 to 0.80% in 2019-21. Gestational Diabetes Mellitus patients are more likely to experience negative obstetric and perinatal outcomes. Early diagnosis and management will help to prevent life threatening consequences for mother such as Pre- Eclampsia , obstructed labour ,recurrent pregnancy losses and for fetus , as preterm birth, macrosomia and shoulder dystochia. Further there is high risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus to both mother and offspring in later life. Around 8-9 studies have been published on gestational diabetes mellitus in different states of India, but no study is performed in Madhya Pradesh . Aims and Objective - The aim and objective of this study is to use a single-step procedure involving a 75 gm glucose load (DIPSI criteria) to determine the Gestational Diabetes Mellitus prevalence in antenatal patients in a rural area of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India . Materials and Methods: The study comprised 420 pregnant women between the gestational ages of 24 and 28 weeks who attended RHTC Palwa, (R D. Gardi Medical College) for routine antenatal check up. Result: In this study, the prevalence of Gestational diabetes mellitus was 10.5% .Women with risk factors as advanced age, high BMI, positive family history of DM, prior history of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, and macrosomia had higher prevalence rates. Conclusion: The prevalence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus was reported to be 10.5% and a substantial correlation between the prevalence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and risk factors was discovered. The DIPSI diagnostic process is an easy, affordable, and research-based test. Keywords : Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, DIPSI Criteria, Prevalence, Obstetric and perinatal outcomes
