Abstract :
Introduction - Although health professionals and those working in the health care industry like medical representatives may be assumed to make healthier lifestyle choices and have better health outcomes than others due to greater health literacy, little is known about their actual health as compared to the overall population. Aims & Objectives We analyzed the prevalence of obesity, diabetes, hypertension and several health behaviours (smoking, alcohol use, and exercise) among medical representatives. Material & Methods 250 medical pharma representatives underwent questionnaire-based test. Their detailed history along with vital parameters, BMI, sugar was tested. We estimated multivariable logistic regressions of each disease and behaviour adjusted for age, race, sex etc. Results To our surprise the rates of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension were higher among the medical representatives. For example, obesity prevalence was 30%, diabetes 34 % and hypertension 43 %. Conclusions Although being a close part of the healthcare and pharma industry the Medical representatives faced many chronic health issues along with mental health problems like anxiety. The problems were compounded by long waiting hour, competition with others, economic problem, health issues controlling anger etc.
