Abstract :
CORNUAL ECTOPIC PREGNANCY ? A RARE ENTITY AUTHOR Dr Kavya Nair (Junior Resident in Department of OBGY, GMCH Chh. Sambhajinagar), Dr. Shrinivas Gadappa (Professor and Head of Department of OBGY, GMCH Chh. Sambhajinagar. ) ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION Cornual pregnancy are rare forms of ectopic pregnancy and cumulatively account for upto 2 % of all ectopic pregnancies.Cornual pregnancy is defined as a pregnancy in which the implantation and development of the product of conception occurs in the upper and lateral portions of the uterus at the level of the tubal recesses. Aim To study the benefit of early detection of cornual ectopic pregnancy and it?s management in reducing maternal mortality Materials and methods A retrospective case study , collecting cases of CP at the obgy department of OBGY , GMCH Sambhajinagar. Inclusion criteria: Age > 18 years with diagnosis of cornual pregnancy. Result Uterine rupture can result in hemorrhagic shock, making it a true obstetric emergency with significant morbidity and mortality for the patient and the fetus. Therefore, an early diagnosis of cornual pregnancy in the ED is crucial (9). However, as it is a rare condition with a reported incidence of 0.5% in all pregnancies, it is a diagnosis that is often missed. Cornual pregnancy poses a higher risk of rupture and hemorrhage compared to other types of ectopic pregnancies A timely diagnosis and appropriate management can therefore reduce maternal mortality and morbidity. Conclusion CP is a potential life-threatening condition who needs a fast resolutive therapy. In the last years minimally invasive approaches are developing and they are gradually more safe and easy to learn. Anyway laparotomic approach stills a safe choice in the emergency scenario, especially in hemodynamic instable patients. Medical therapy also, when clinical situation allows medical therapy, should always be considered given the low complication and the good success chances.
